NSFAS have announced the window period where prospective TVET College students can apply for funding to start studying this year.
The student funding body has a number of different application window periods to match the TVET College courses. Where universities only enroll new students in February each year, TVET College students offer a range of courses and some start in semesters or trimesters.
Students have to ensure that they apply for the correct funding as mistakes can mean they don't qualify for financial support.
Some TVET courses will be starting in the third trimester this year and NSFAS will open applications on the 14th August 2026 for these courses. The TVET application window will close on Sunday 23rd August.
The organisation explained that they have brought this application period forward to maintain a clear distinction between this funding window for TVET Colleges in 2026, and the main application period for the 2027 academic year.
The application period for the 2027 academic year usually opens in September. This national application cycle is for all courses that start in the beginning of 2027. This include university courses and also full-year TVET College courses. These TVET courses include annual programmes, trimester 1 courses, semester 1 courses, and annual occupational qualification courses.
Applicants who want to study at a college this year should first approach a local TVET College to see what courses they have available for a trimester 3 start.
The prospective-students are required to make their own application for NSFAS funding, as this cannot be done by the TVET College. All applications must be made on the NSFAS website at my.nsfas.org.za.
