Ever since President Cyril Ramaphosa introduced the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI), a number of young people have benefitted through this initiative.

The third phase of this initiative is left with under two months before it comes to its end on 31 August 2022.

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) is pleased with the progress that has been made through this initiative, having created more than 800 000 employment opportunities in the education sector.

The Education Department has urged those who are part of the PYEI to take up all the training opportunities available to them.

In an interview, the department’s PYEI-BEEI project manager, Lala Maje said:

The training that we are offering young people is mainly to build capacity in our communities. It will come in the form of an informal training and formal training.

Whilst the youth will obtain soft skills that they will use across a wide range of jobs, they will also receive training in courses such as Online Safety, Artificial Intelligence in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (AI in the 4IR) and Digital Literacy.

It is said that all three training courses differ in terms of duration and the participants will receive an accredited certificate after the completion of the course.

The Education Department has confirmed that trainings offerings will be done with its partners (Digify Africa, NEMISA, 2Enable, and Pinnock Consulting, eCubed).

According to DBE spokesperson, Elijah Mhlanga, one of the objectives of the youth initiative is to provide beneficiaries with skills and competencies that will enhance their prospects for future employment.
