For many students, it may be their first time in Gauteng, which makes them targets for conmen and criminals. To help these students protect themselves, the National Taxi Council- Santaco has launched a student safety campaign.
According to Santaco, the campaign is important because students need to be able to protect themselves.
"What we are doing, as Santaco, is what is called Hlokomela programme", said Santaco's Midday Mali.
The council has teamed up with police to try and find ways to deal with criminal activity.
With the help from the campaign, students will no longer be victims to criminals and will be able to stand up for themselves.
Santaco also urges parents to accompany their children as they enrol at universities and colleges to ensure that they are safe and not taken advantage of.
