The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is now in the process of finalising checks on applications received for 2021 funding.

NSFAS received near to 800 000 applications for 2021.

About 730 000 of these were received through the online application process and about 60 000 were done through the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) and TVET College walk-ins.

A statement released read:

For the 2021 application cycle, NSFAS has received an unprecedented number of applications in previous years.

NSFAS is currently doing the final touches on the due diligence and quality checks of the application information received.

Some applicants have already received funding decisions and others should start receiving theirs soon.

Funding for students will only officially start once they've been registered and NSFAS has received registration information.

Higher Education Minister, Blade Nzimande, said all students who are already funded by the NSFAS and have met their study and eligibility criteria will continue to be funded this year.

Applicants are advised to take note of the following:

  • Keep your username and password safe;
  • Contact NSFAS should a cellphone number change or if it has been lost;
  • Do not share your NSFAS Wallet details;
  • Report any suspicious communication that requests you to share your personal information or passwords;
  • Do not leave your personal information exposed, and make sure you log out of your myNSFAS account when you are not using it; and
  • Note that your status will be communicated directly to you officially only by NSFAS (be aware of fake news).

Students are advised to regularly track their funding statuses on the myNSFAS portal. The portal will assist students to upload any pending documents where required.
