On 15 December, matric examination markers were busy marking the Accounting Paper 2 and Business Studies Paper 2 when their marking centre was damaged by a devastating hail storm.
The marking centre was located at Albert Moroka High School in Thaba Nchu, a town in the Free State.
About 112 markers were employed to work at the centre.
Unfortunately during the storm one of the markers sustained minor injuries, however, the rest were unharmed.
The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has reported that these markers have been relocated to another school in Bloemfontein on 17 December 2021.
“Marking has been in full swing since this morning. Everyone is safe and at work,” stated the DBE.
Many who have reached out continue to receive counselling after the traumatic event.
