The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) provides financial assistance to those in need in the form of social grants.
These social grants include:
- Care dependency grant
- Child grant
- Disability grant
- Foster child grant
- Grant for older persons
- Grant-in-aid
- Social relief of distress
- War veteran’s grant.
Once you have applied and been approved for a social grant, you get to choose your method of payment.
Approved beneficiaries may choose to receive their social grant directly into their personal bank account or have the grant paid into a new Sassa card account.
Those who wish to use their own bank account will be liable for all costs related to the account, whereas those who use a Sassa card will have no costs to pay.
Unless they use the card for services in excess of those Sassa pays for.
If you choose to have the social grant paid directly into your bank account, you will be requested to complete a form confirming your bank account details.
Please ensure that you provide the correct details otherwise you will not receive your payment.
Those who choose to use a Sassa card will be enrolled and issued the card by South African Post Office officials.
Please note that if your circumstances improve or you are no longer eligible for the grant, your funds may be suspended.
However, if you believe you still qualify for the grant you may request reconsideration.
