The Department of Higher Education is also participating in the Presidential Employment Stimulus programme in an effort to avail job opportunities for the country’s graduates.

In partnership with Universities South Africa (USAf), the initiative aims to provide temporary employment opportunities for university graduates.

According to the Department’s recently published report, the programme will provide graduates with opportunities to obtain valuable experience in a variety of fields in order to improve their employment preparedness and expand their career options.

Additionally, the report further states that the temporary job opportunities involves core administrative operations of all the universities.

3 000 positions are available across the 26 universities in 2022/23. Training needs will be identified and implemented to ensure that graduates are adequately capacitated to do the necessary work.

However, the Presidential Employment Stimulus programme extends far beyond the Higher Education Department, as the Basic Education Department also benefits from the PYEI, the Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI).

The BEEI, which is currently in its third phase, also seeks to provide temporary employment and training opportunities to young people in the form of teaching and general assistant positions.
