The University of South Africa (Unisa) has warned students that if they fail to use proctoring tools their examination results will be withheld. They explain that students who exceed the time-out threshold will have their results withheld.
Exam results will be withheld if a student is identified to have been out of the Invigilator App for more than 10 minutes
Unisa explained that students who spend a cumulative total of 10 minutes outside of the Invigilator App during their examination session will be considered to have breached Unisa's examination rules.
The university uses proctoring tools to ensure the integrity of examinations is upheld. Proctoring tools are online invigilating tools which require a connection to a smartphone, laptop or desktop with a functional camera. All students are required to use a proctoring tool while they write their exams.
Unisa says despite these instructions, students exited or minimised the Invigilator App for a period exceeding 10 minutes during their assessment and therefore violated the mandatory usage of the Invigilator App during their examinations. Accordingly, marks have been withheld.
This rule was clearly communicated and shared with students in our online examination rules and guidelines through multiple communication channels.
The university said that First-time writing students found to be out of the Invigilator App for over 10 minutes have had their marks withheld and have the option to rewrite during the next module examination sitting.
Second-time writing students, however, will have their marks withheld and must re-register for the respective module(s). Students dissatisfied with the university's decision have the opportunity to appeal through a provided form.
We stress the importance of adhering to these rules, as they are in place to uphold the credibility of our examinations and qualifications. All enquiries relating to invigilation should be referred to [email protected]
