Parents and guardians were given access to apply for grade 1 and 8 school placements in Gauteng from 15 June. These applications have to be submitted on the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) admissions website.

Parents have until 21 July to submit their supporting documents to all the schools they've applied at. Until 31 July, schools will then verify documents, provide parents with proof of receipt of documents and update applicant's document status on the system.

So until when do I have to apply?

This application period is expected to end on 14 July at midnight, giving parents a month to apply for school admission. GDE is expected to open late applications in December.

During the late applications period, parents apply to schools where there is still space available and submit documents.

How can I apply?

Before starting the application process, parents are advised to gather all the necessary documents and information required for the application process.

This may include proof of residence, birth certificates, and any relevant medical records or special needs documentation for learners who require additional support.

Here's how to apply:

  1. Go to the GDE Admissions website
  2. Register an account
  3. Fill in current home address details
  4. Fill in parents work address details
  5. Fill in learner's personal details
  6. Complete the school application form online.
  7. Upload all documents by using the upload function on the system

Once parents start their online application process, they will have to finish their application and go through every step in one sitting.

Every step of the application process will be confirmed through SMS for security and verification processes, and it is therefore important that parents provide a reliable cell phone number.

When will learners be placed?

From 4 September, parents will start receiving placement offers through SMS. Parents are advised to accept or decline each offer within 7 days.
