School admission applications for parents in Gauteng wanting to place their children in grade 1 and 8 are now open for the 2024 school year. Here's everything to know about this year's application period.

Gauteng School Admission applications for 2024 will close on 14 July at midnight, which gives parents and guardians one month to apply. This year's application period will work differently to last year's.

Last year, the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) had a two-phased approach for school applications but this year, there will be a single application process for both grade 1 and 8 admissions. Parents are advised to apply for three different schools.

How To Apply Online For Gauteng School Applications

Before starting the application process, parents are advised to gather all the necessary documents and information required for the application process.

This may include proof of residence, birth certificates, and any relevant medical records or special needs documentation for learners who require additional support.

Here's how to apply:

  1. Go to the GDE Admissions website
  2. Register an account
  3. Fill in current home address details
  4. Fill in parents work address details
  5. Fill in learner's personal details
  6. Complete the school application form online.
  7. Upload all documents by using the upload function on the system

Once parents start their online application process, they will have to finish their application and go through every step in one sitting.

Every step of the application process will be confirmed through SMS for security and verification processes, and it is therefore important that parents provide a reliable cell phone number.

The Department has also made 15 District offices available for anyone who needs assistance.
