The University of South Africa (Unisa) is South Africa’s largest distance university that offers a wide range of academic programmes for students wanting to obtain tertiary qualifications

The institution has recently made some system updates to its online student portal ‘myModules’ component to improve the learning experience for students.

Unisa issued a notice stating:

The myModules component of myUnisa will be unavailable from midnight on Wednesday 19 July 2023 to midnight on Tuesday 25 July 2023 for maintenance and a major upgrade. The objective is to improve functionality, user experience, security, and performance of the system.

According to Unisa the system changes are minimal, and most should be intuitive and not require any changes in a student’s experience of myModules.

Unisa myModules Changes

Following the maintenance update, the university released a guide to inform students about the changes on myModules. Students have been urged to take note and familiarize themselves with the upates.

Unisa notes, “The contents of this communication do not replace myModules user guides already in place for Unisa students.” Here are some of the changes that were made:

The Dashboard Page:

  • The Dashboard tab has now been moved to the top navigation bar.
  • The user profile name is no longer displayed in full. Only the user initials are displayed on the profile section. If a user uploads a profile picture, the initials will be replaced by the picture.
  • The navigation drawer is no longer displayed in the dashboard page.

The Course Search Functionality:

  • Students can now access a specific course through a search function located on the myModules drop-down menu.
  • A block drawer can be expanded or collapsed using this symbol.

The Course Settings Menu:

  • Some course information links were moved from the left menu to the top horizontal bar. Users can now click on the course name in the left menu to display these links.
  • A course completion bar is now displayed in the course header.

The Accessibility Settings:

  • The "Accessibility" settings can be selected directly from the profile drop-down menu.

How To Access Unisa myModules

  1. Go to the Unisa website: https://www.unisa.ac.za.
  2. Login to myUnisa.
  3. Enter your credentials and follow the prompts.
  4. Navigate to myModules.
  5. Explore your modules.

Should students encounter any difficulties or need further assistance, they are advised to refer to the official Unisa website or contact their support services for some assistance.

Unisa Semester 2 Registrations

Unisa opened their Semester 2 registration on 3 July 2023. This means students looking to enroll for undergraduate qualifications, honours degrees, postgraduate diplomas, MBA and MBL qualification can now submit their registrations.

Students who have not yet registered are now urged to register as soon as possible as the Unisa registration deadline nears.

How To Submit Your Online Unisa Registration

  1. Visit the Unisa registration website: https://registration.unisa.ac.za/info/
  2. Choose the qualification level and then click "Go".
  3. Enter your student number in the block provided and the other details as required. (If you do not have a student number, you won’t be able to continue. You'll need to apply online for admission. During this process, a student number will be generated and communicated to you.)
  4. Check your personal details on screen: Change any contact details that are incorrect or missing. (Incorrect information may delay the delivery of your study material and prevent you from receiving important information from the university. Therefore it is important to provide your correct address and cellphone numbers.)
  5. Click on the modules from the drop-down list for which you want to register. Ensure that you meet all the qualification requirements for your selected modules. You must: meet all the pre-requisites and co-requisites for the selected module, enter the correct module code, select the correct semester (1 = first semester; 2 = second semester)
  6. The language of tuition for each module is stated in the module information.
  7. Do not exceed the prescribed number of modules per semester or year, as this may result in a delay in your registration being processed: Unisa retains the right to remove modules based on the number of credits allowed per semester and in accordance with the fees paid. (Please take note of the maximum period of time you have to complete your qualification.)
  8. Calculate your fees.

Students can choose your modules and calculate your fees during the online registration process. This registration period will remain open until Friday, 28 July 2023 for semester modules only.
