The 2023 matric results have been released by the Department of Basic Education (DBE). The matric class of 2023 achieved a pass rate of 82.9%.
Registrations for the Second Chance Matric Programme will close on 9 February.
While many learners will be satisfied with their matric results, not all learners have achieved the marks they wanted. These learners are encouraged to apply for the Second Chance Matric Programme (SCMP).
The SCMP was introduced to support learners who want to rewrite matric subjects. The programme helps them to meet the requirements of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) or Senior Certificate (SC) and obtain a Grade 12 matric certificate.
Support for learners part of the programme includes face-to-face classes, as well as online programmes and television and radio broadcasts.
Learners are also provided with resource packs to assist them in their preparation for matric exams. The resources are government-owned, printed and distributed to learners at no cost to the learner.
What's Needed For Second Chance Matric Programme Applications
When applying through the district office, applicants are advised to carry the following documents:
- Identity Document
- Statement of results or matric certificate
- School reports are required for those who left school before matric
To register for the programme online go to www.eservices.gov.za or visit any Department of Basic Education office with an ID document and statement of results.
Learners must register to write for the examination and attending the second chance programme does not mean that you are automatically registered for the examination. Learners are required to register for a matric exam rewrite.
