Applicants of the current cycle of the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant have been reminded to ensure that their application details have been updated. Failure to do this, according to the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) will result in the agency’s inability to process their application.

On Monday, Sassa announced on their social media channels that R350 grant recipients could update any inaccurately submitted personal information on the SRD website and/or change their answers to the application's screening questions.

Sassa also advised that applicants can do this with effect from Friday, 1 July 2022, at https://srd.sassa.gov.za. Sassa R350 grant applicants should correct their details by no later than 7 July 2022, if they wish to update their screening questions for the evaluation of the April and May 2022 periods.

Clients who wish to update their screening questions for the assessment of the April and May 2022 Periods, should update their details by no later than 07 July 2022.

In addition, applicants for the SRD grant who have had their applications rejected should be aware that Sassa has recently launched a new appeals procedure, managed by an Independent Tribunal, to guarantee that they get a fair chance to receive the grant if they are eligible for it.

The new appeals process, which has been active since Monday 27 June this past week and meant to exclusively accommodate R350 grant applicants, is intended to address outstanding from April 2022 and onwards.

Additionally, Sassa highly recommends that R350 applicants lodge an appeal for each month that their application was denied. The agency hopes to complete all applications by August after evaluating all other appeals for months prior to April 2022. The new appeals procedure can be carried out using the method listed below.

How To Submit R350 Grant Appeal Under New Rules:

  1. Visit srd.dsd.gov.za
  2. Click on the green bar that says 'click here to lodge an appeal or check appeal status'
  3. Enter your ID number
  4. Enter your cellphone number
  5. Click 'send pin' and wait for the SMS which will contain the verification pin
  6. Enter the pin and click 'submit'
  7. Select the month you are submitting an appeal for
  8. Select the drop down arrow and choose the reason for your appeal
  9. Click 'submit'

Even though it is advised that appeals be filed as soon as possible after being rejected, they must be sent in within 90 days. Following this, applicants will be told if their appeal was successful or not.
