The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has revealed the grant payment dates for March 2025. This is important information for the millions of people living in South Africa who receive social grant payments.
Sassa distributes over 18 million permanent grant payments, including the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid. This is in addition to the approximately 8 million individuals who receive the temporary Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant.
March 2025 Sassa Grant Payment Dates
- Older Persons Grant: 4 March 2025
- Disability Grants: 5 March 2025
- Children’s Grants: 6 March 2025
New Sassa Cards Available
Sassa gold cards will expire on 20 March 2025 with beneficiaries being urged to get the new Sassa black card.
Postbank noted several benefits for grant beneficiaries who switch to the new black Sassa card, including free first card replacement, three free store withdrawals per month, one free monthly statement, and assurance of no unauthorised account deductions, ensuring funds are secure.
How to Get a New Sassa Card
Postbank provided the following instructions for beneficiaries to locate a card replacement centre:
- Step 1: Dial *120*218*3#
- Step 2: Select option 1
- Step 3: Choose your province
After completing these steps, beneficiaries will see a list of locations where new cards are being issued. When collecting a new Sassa card, bring your ID (or a temporary ID if the original is lost). If collecting on behalf of someone else, bring the official Sassa proxy letter. Asylum seeker grant beneficiaries should bring the official Sassa approval letter.
Grant payments remain unaffected by the rollout of cards, even after the 20 March deadline. However, its functionality will be affected and the only way beneficiaries using the gold cards can access their money after the deadline is to visit a Post Office Branch.
