Millions of vulnerable people receive grants from the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa). Sassa distributes grants in terms of the Social Assistance Act. Under the framework of the act, Sassa oversees the implementation of various social assistance programs. This includes the distribution of several permanent grants.

These grants include the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.

Beneficiaries of all the permanent social grants distributed by Sassa are set to be paid this week.

When Permanent Grants Are Paid

Sassa distributes permanent grants at the beginning of each month. These payments will commence on the second day of each month.

It’s important to note that Sassa does not pay grants on public holidays or weekends. This essentially means that if the second day of the month is on a weekend or public holiday, the grant will be paid on the next weekday.

How To Collect Permanent Sassa Grants

There are a few ways beneficiaries can collect their grants. These include:

Bank Account

Permanent grant beneficiaries and SRD grant recipients have the option of having their grants paid directly into their bank account. This is a convenient grant payment method, as beneficiaries can access their money at any time after the payment was made by Sassa.

Retail outlets

Sassa grants are paid to selected retailers around the country. The vast geographical footprint of retail outlets makes it easy for grant recipients to find one close to where they live.

Beneficiaries can withdraw their money at any time when the retail outlet is operational. Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Boxer stores, Usave stores and Checkers all distribute social grants.

Mobile Cash Pay Points

There are also mobile cash pay points where grant beneficiaries can collect their money. However, this is not a flexible payment option and beneficiaries may only collect their grant payment for a few hours during a grant payment cycle.

R350 Grant Payment Dates For September

It's important to note that the special SRD grant, does not have a fixed payment date. However, the agency has recently revealed that R350/SRD grants will be paid towards the end of every month.

The processing of grants take place during the latter stages of the month as Sassa conducts various verification checks to ensure the grant applicant meets the qualifying criteria for the grant.

This means that R30 grant beneficiaries could expect their grant payments during this timeline: Payment period from 22 September 2023 to 29 September 2023

Once Sassa approves applications for this grant, beneficiaries are notified via message when their R350 grant payment is available for collection.

During the designated payment week, Sassa encourages beneficiaries to check their Sassa status on the SRD website to determine the exact date when their grant payment will be deposited into their bank accounts.

The agency also reminds grant recipients that it typically takes approximately 2-3 working days for the funds to appear in their bank accounts after the payment has been processed.

How To Collect R350 Grants

Bank Account

R350 Grant Beneficiaries can choose to have their grant paid directly into their bank account. This allows them to access the money as soon as it is available.

Cash Send

Individuals who do not have a bank account can make use of the R350 grant CashSend payment option. Beneficiaries use their ID numbers and phone numbers to access their grant money. You must have a cellphone with a registered cellphone number and proof of identification to use this grant payment method.

Retail Stores

Grant beneficiaries can collect their R350 grant at several retail stores around the country. Pick N Pay, Checkers, Shoprite and Boxer stores pay the R350 grant.

Sassa has made it clear that beneficiaries should not rush to withdraw their Sassa payment on the first day it becomes available and to remember that once the money has been sent to their accounts, it will remain there until they need it.

Sassa Grant Payment Delays

On Tuesday, Sassa announced that Postbank is experiencing technical challenges which are affecting grant payments. These challenges are affecting some beneficiaries’ ability to withdraw their funds at ATMS and Retail stores.

Sassa explained:

The technical challenges also affect some Sassa SRD R350 withdrawals within retailers.

Sassa says Postbank teams are working to resolve the challenges that are preventing grants from being paid.

Beneficiaries of the Older Persons grants and War Veterans grant were scheduled to be paid on 5 September 2023. They were unable to access their grants due to payment delays.

Sassa grants payments transactions via Sassa gold cards within Post Office branches are processing normally and not affected by the issue.

On Wednesday afternoon, Sassa updated the public and said that Postbank has fully restored payment services. "Clients can now enjoy the use of the SASSA/Postbank powered cards to make purchases and payments".

The processing of the reversals of funds debited on the accounts that declined since yesterday due to a system error is underway ... the funds will be reversed into all beneficiaries' accounts approximately in the next 24 hours.

Beneficiaries who had their transactions decline are advised to wait before attempting further transactions.
