The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has confirmed the grant payment dates for January 2026. This is important information for millions of individuals who rely on social grant payments to survive.
Sassa distributes over 18 million permanent grant payments, including the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid. This is in addition to the approximately 8 million people who receive Social Relief of Distress Grant payments.
Sassa has just confirmed the January 2026 Sassa payment dates.
Sassa Dates For January 2026
- Older Persons Grant: 6 January 2026
- Disability Grants: 7 January 2026
- Children’s Grants: 8 January 2026
SRD grant payments are normally paid in the final week of the month. Sassa confirmed January 2025 SRD grant payments are set to be paid to approved grant applicants between 25 January and 31 January 2026.
Sassa Payment For January 2026
The current grant amounts, as confirmed by Sassa, are:
- Older Persons Grant: R2,320 (R2,340 for recipients aged 75 and above)
- Disability Grant: R2,320
- War Veterans Grant: R2,340
- Care Dependency Grant: R2,320
- Foster Care Grant: R1,250
- Child Support Grant: R560
- Child Support Grant (Top-Up): R560 + R280
- Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant: R370
Future Payment Schedules
As in the previous, Sassa releases grant payment dates for 12 consecutive months. These payment dates usually start from April to December of a given year as well as the first three months of the subsequent year.
Sassa’s grant payment policy is to pay grant beneficiaries from the second day of each month. This may be adjusted to accommodate weekends and public holidays when Sassa does not pay social grants.
Future Grant Payment Amounts
The Finance Minister announces two Sassa grant increases during the annual budget speech. These adjustments are implemented in April and October.
The next Sassa grant increase is set to be implemented on 1 April 2026 with the increase set to be announced in February 2026 when the Finance Minister announces the national budget for the year.
