Postbank will continue issuing black cards to grant beneficiaries beyond the 20 March deadline.
The agency said it will continue to swap Sassa gold cards with Postbank black cards until the end of June 2025. This is when it anticipates completing the issuance of black cards to all beneficiaries who require them.
Beneficiaries who are bedridden can register for a home visit at a Sassa office.
They must provide a medical certificate proving their condition, along with their ID, proof of medical condition, and cellphone number. This can be done at a Sassa office or by calling the Sassa call centre or Postbank call centre
Grant Payment Solution For Grant Beneficiaries Expired Card
In a joint statement with the Sassa, Postbank confirmed that despite the expiry of gold cards, grant payments will proceed uninterrupted. Grant payments will still be made to beneficiaries who were unable to get a new postbank black card.
All social grant beneficiaries will continue to be paid, including all social grant beneficiaries who have not been able to get their black cards.
Millions of gold cards will expire on Thursday, 20 March 2025 and beneficiaries will not be able to use the Sassa gold cards to access their April 2025 grant payments.
No beneficiaries would be able to use their Sassa gold card to make any transaction, even if they have money in their account.
Grant beneficiaries with expired Sassa gold cards can collect their April Sassa grant payment at a Post Office branch. There are just over 540 Post Office Branches around the country.
It's important to note that Post Office grant payments are available to grant beneficiaries who have not yet replaced their Sassa gold cards, asylum seekers and Postbank grant beneficiaries.
Beneficiaries who already have Postbank black cards must please use their card through ATMs and retailers to access their funds.
Postbank warned that beneficiaries with black cards will not be assisted at Post Office Branches.
"Postbank has taken these measures to ensure that there are no interruptions in the payments of social grants and that beneficiaries who are yet to replace their Sassa gold cards continue to access their grants when the time for their cards to stop working arrives on 20 March 2025."
