The myNSFAS portal was down last week which elevated student stress even more. Students have also complained that they are only seeing grey ticks.
When the problem was happening, NSFAS took to social media and said, "Please note that the myNSFAS portal is currently offline to complete scheduled maintenance. NSFAS is aware of the challenges on the myNSFAS portal. Our technicians are working on resolving this problem. This will be resolved as soon as possible."
On this, NSFAS CEO, Andile Nongogo, said:
The statuses of the students when they check on the portal have not moved because we have not moved them to the next level. The portal has never been down for a long time, if it is down, it would be for a few hours.
Nongogo further said that it hasn't been down for as long as the media has made it.
Students are being affirmed that if they were told that they are funded and meet the requirements but have not heard anything, their funding will come through.
NSFAS has also said that any missing documents can be uploaded using the myNSFAS portal.
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is a government student bursary scheme which receives its funding budget from, and reports to the Department of Higher Education and Training. NSFAS will cover more than just your tuition fees, should you qualify.
NSFAS offers bursaries to South African students who plan to study at public universities and TVET colleges. They cover funding for registration, tuition and allowances.
NSFAS funds students depending on the duration of their course or degree.
