The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has invited Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college students enrolled in approved courses to apply for funding.
NSFAS provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to deserving learners enrolled in approved courses at TVET colleges. This includes money for tuition and registration fees as well as several allowances for food, accommodation and learning materials.
Students planning to register for semester or trimester 1 courses at TVET Colleges can now apply for NSFAS funding.
If students are planning to begin their studies at the beginning of the 2025 academic year, they must apply for funding during the current 2025 NSFAS application period.
NSFAS 2025 Application Deadlines
NSFAS bursary applications are open for 2025, and thousands of students have already applied for funding. Prospective NSFAS beneficiaries must submit their applications by 15 December 2024.
Students must submit NSFAS applications online. NSFAS confirmed that the TVET walk-in applications will not be available in 2025.
Unlike in previous academic years, NSFAS will not open the TVET Walk-in applications in 2025.
Grade 12 learners are reminded that matric results are not required when applying for NSFAS funding.
Who Qualifies For NSFAS
All South African Citizens and permanent residents can apply for NSFAS funding.
Individuals applying for a NSFAS bursary must have a combined household income not exceeding R350 000 per annum before deductions. Individuals living with disabilities can have a household income of up to R600,000 for a NSFAS bursary.
Students can have a combined household income over R350 000 and below R600 000 and qualify for the NSFAS loan.

- Create a myNSFAS account: Visit the NSFAS website and create an account.
- Complete the application form: Fill in all required information, including personal details, contact information, academic history, and financial information.
- Upload supporting documents.
- Submit your application.
Other TVET College NSFAS Application Period
NSFAS TVET College application periods are closely aligned with the academic calendar. This allows students to apply for funding when they begin their studies.
The financial aid scheme also advises students to apply for the relevant academic cycle in which they intend to register.
It is important to note that a student should apply for the relevant academic cycle which they intend to enrol in.
- Trimester 2 opens on 12 May 2025 and closes on 23 May 2025
- Semester 2 opens from 14 July 2025 and closes on 31 July 2025
- Trimester 3 opens on 8 September 2025 and closes on 19 September 2025
NSFAS reminded students that the NSFAS application process is free, and no fees are required for any part of the process.
