The Mpumalanga Department of Education has opened the 2025 school year admissions application period. Parents are encouraged to comply with the timelines and requirements to facilitate the successful enrollment of learners.
Admissions for the 2025 academic year commenced on 2 May 2024 and will close on 30 August 2024. This gives parents around 120 days to submit an admission application on behalf of their children. Only two months are left to submit admission applications.
The Provincial Education Department (PED) said all applications for Grade 1 and Grade 8, as well as confirmations of return or transfers to different schools, must be completed within this period.

The first step in the admissions process is to submit the required documents for registration. These documents include:
- Birth Certificate
- Identity Documents (ID)
- Study Permits (for non-citizens)
- Passports (for non-citizens)
- Proof of Residence
If these documents are not available, alternative proof in the form of an affidavit or sworn statement signed by the parent, caregiver, or guardian can be submitted.
Capturing Details
Schools must collect and record information including the name of the parent, guardian, or caregiver, their identity number, residential address, and contact details. This includes postal and residential addresses, home and work telephone numbers, cell phone numbers, and next of kin.
Additionally, the contact details of a relative should be provided in case the primary contact is unavailable during emergencies.
Verification of Information
This collected information must be compiled and submitted to the Circuit Office for the District Director. Principals must ensure all learner information is accurately captured and verified for authenticity, reliability, and validity.
Special Considerations
Undocumented Learners
The Mumplange Department of Education said children without the required documents must not be denied admission due to their constitutional right to education. Schools must accept affidavits or sworn statements as alternative proof of identity and residence.

Learners with barriers to learning requiring specialised support must follow the policy on screening, identification, assessment, and support for appropriate placement. Parents are required submit all relevant supporting documents, such as medical reports and therapist reports.

Admission Ages
For admissions to ECD centres, children must be 4½ years old, turning 5 by 30 June of the admission year. Applications should be accompanied by a birth certificate, a Road to Health Card (Clinic Card), and ID copies of parents.
