The KwaZulu Natal Department of Education is urging parents to apply for school admission before applications close. The province officially opened applications on 12 April 2023, and will close them on 30 September 2023.
These school admissions are open for learners looking for placement in grade 1 and grade 8. Applications must be ideally submitted long before the closing date in order to give the education department enough time to process all applications and place learners.
Beyond applying early, parents are also encouraged to apply to a minimum of 3 schools and to follow up with their applications within at least 3 months of submitting.
KwaZulu Natal Education MEC, Mbali Frazer advised parents looking to transfer learners from one school to another to submit a request as soon as possible.
The only transfer applications that the department will consider are those of learners whose parents have been transferred by their employers, with effect from 1 October 2023 onwards.
Parents will be required to submit evidence of this transfer along with their application.
“The department will also consider applications for transfer of learners who would have lost their parents or guardians and have to relocate as a result of that loss,” Frazer explained.
Late applications have been discouraged, as this puts the department in a difficult position of having to find placements for learners within a short period of time.
