Millions of vulnerable individuals in South Africa rely on support from the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa). If you require financial assistance in the form of a social grant, you can apply for a Sassa grant in May 2025.

Sassa offers several permanent grants including the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.

Based on the applicant's age and circumstances, they can apply for a social grant. 

Applying For Sassa Grants For May 2025 

1. Visit Your Local Sassa Branch

You can apply for a grant by visiting your nearest Sassa office, where staff will guide you through the application process. If you're unable to apply due to illness or age, you can authorise someone to apply on your behalf.

2. Online Application

Sassa also offers online applications for the Child Support, Older Persons, and Disability Grants.

How To Apply For Sassa Grants Online

  1. Visit the Sassa Services Portal.
  2. Register as a new user.
  3. Log in with your username and password.
  4. Click "Apply For A Grant."
  5. Select the grant you wish to apply for (e.g., Older Persons, Child Support, Foster Child).
  6. Complete the application form thoroughly.
  7. Print the affidavit generated by Sassa and have it certified by a Commissioner of Oaths.
  8. Print, sign, and submit the Bank Payment form with the certified affidavit.
  9. Upload all required supporting documents in PDF format.
  10. Submit your application. You'll receive a confirmation email or SMS with a reference number for tracking.

Grant applicants are encouraged to refer to the official Sassa website for a complete list of required documents for each grant type.

When Approved Grant Applications Will Be Processed

After submission, you will receive a reference number, which serves as proof of application. There is no application fee. Approved grants typically occur during the first week of each month, excluding weekends and public holidays. Grants remain available in beneficiary accounts until needed.
