The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) provides social grants to millions of vulnerable people living in the country. It is estimated that approximately 19 million people benefit from the permanent grants disputed by the agency, which is in addition to the 8 million Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant beneficiaries.

Sassa distributes several different permanent grants. These include the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.

Purpose Of Social Grants

Sassa grants play a critical role in reducing poverty and improving the quality of life for millions of South Africans. They provide a safety net for vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities.

The Child Support Grant provides financial assistance to caregivers of children under the age of 18. The Old Age Pension supports elderly citizens aged 60 and above while The Disability Grant offers financial support to individuals with permanent or temporary disabilities.

The Foster Child Grant assists caregivers of foster children, the Care Dependency Grant is for caregivers of children with severe disabilities while the Grant-in-Aid supplements other grants for individuals who need full-time care, and the Social Relief of Distress Grant provides temporary assistance for individuals in dire need.

If you require this type of assistance, you can apply for a Sassa grant. The great news is that you can apply for a Sassa grant from the comfort and safety of your home.
