The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has confirmed allowance payment values for September 2024.

NSFAS provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to deserving learners enrolled in approved courses at universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges. This includes money for tuition and registration fees as well as several allowances for food, accommodation and learning materials.

The government bursary scheme has confirmed how much TVET College allowances will be for September 2024.

NSFAS Allowances For TVET Colleges

TVET college students receive an annual living allowance of R10,000. The learning material allowance for TVET students varies depending on the courses they are enrolled in.

Special provisions are made for students with disabilities, who receive higher living allowances and an additional learning materials allowance.

However, specific conditions apply, such as eligibility for allowances only during simulated training for certain TVET students.

Monthly NSFAS Allowances for September 2024

NSFAS meal and personal care allowances are divided into 10 payments. This means that in September 2024, students will receive a meal allowance of R1,345. Students living in catered accommodation will receive a personal care allowance of approximately R300.

Transportation Allowance

Students who live more than 10 km away from campus are eligible for an annual transportation allowance of R7,718, which equates to a monthly travel allowance of R771. It's important to note that this allowance will be provided directly to the student if the institution hasn't arranged travel on their behalf.

Remember, NSFAS will only continue funding you if you maintain your academic eligibility. Ensure you meet all requirements to keep receiving these benefits.

TVET College Students Must Submit Banking Details To Receive NSFAS Allowances

NSFAS called on TVET College students to upload their banking details on the myNSFAS portal to ensure they receive their allowance payments on time.

Approximately 11,000 students failed to submit their banking details on the myNSFAS portal, which could delay their allowance payments. The bursary scheme said efforts are underway to ensure all students' banking details are available and verified.

It’s important to note that only students with confirmed funding and submitted registration data could add their banking details on the myNSFAS portal. NSFAS verified all submitted bank accounts.

  2. Log in using your myNSFAS credentials.
  3. Select "Bank Account Details" under "Profile Information."
  4. Enter your bank details.
