GDE Admissions 2025
GDE online applications will open on Thursday, 11 July at 8 AM and close on 12 August at midnight. This gives parents just 32 days to submit an admissions application and secure their child's placement at a school in the province.
Gauteng is the last province to announce its school admissions for the 2025 academic year. Chiloane explained that the delay was due to school governing body elections and national elections.
Despite this delay, the MEC is confident there will be enough time to ensure all learners are placed in a school in the province.
“We are starting placements at the same time we started last year,” noted Chiloane. School placements for parents who complete applications will commence on 16 September.
This application period is exclusively for Grades 1 and 8. Applications for Grades R, 2-7, and Grades 9-12 must be done directly at the respective schools.
We are not late in terms of placement, we are just starting late.
How Gauteng School Admissions Work
To apply for Gauteng school admissions, parents must complete an online application on the GDE admissions website.
The process begins with registering and providing necessary parent or guardian details. Following registration, parents must provide their address details and information about the learner.
Next, parents select the school of their choice to apply to. During the regular application period, supporting documents are uploaded online. However, during the late application period, these documents can be submitted directly to the school when they reopen.
Required Documents For Gauteng Admissions
- Parent's ID or passport
- The child's birth certificate or passport
- Proof of work address
- Latest Grade 7 school report (for Grade 8 applications)
- Immunisation report
- Proof of home address
The GDE also sets up a dedicated contact centre to assist payments with Gauteng school applications. The GDE further announced that parents experiencing difficulties can access assistance at one of the 80 centres across the province offering free assistance.
Applications are limited to one per child. The system will only acknowledge the child once, so multiple applications are not allowed.
