The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has postponed its 2025 school admissions application period announcement. The provincial education department was previously set to announce when 2025 school applications open earlier this week.

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) wishes to inform the public that the announcement of the #2025OnlineAdmissionsGP commencement date has been postponed.
GDE Admissions 2025
In a previous statement released by the GDE, the department said the official 2025 school application period in Gauteng would be announced on 18 June 2024. However, this date has come and passed, leaving the department to confirm that the announcement has been postponed.
The GDE clarified that the application period announcement will be made at a later date but has not provided a specific date for the announcement.
Please note that the commencement date will be published on all media platforms in due course.
Parents in the province are reminded that applications are not yet open. This also indicated that they would be unable to log in to the admissions application portal.
The 2025 Admissions Online Application Period for Grade 1 and Grade 8 Applications is NOT open yet. You will not be able to log in before the 2025 Admissions Online Application Period commences.
2024 Gauteng School admissions opened in June 2023 in preparation for the subsequent school year. This means that the 2024 application period for the 2025 placement could open soon.
When Gauteng School Admissions For 2025 Will Open
The GDE has confirmed that an official announcement on when 2025 admissions will open will be made on 9 July 2024.
Gauteng MEC for Education, Sport, Arts, Culture & Recreation, Matome Chiloane will on Tuesday, 9 July 2024, officially announce the commencement date and process for the 2025 Online Admissions for Grade 1 and Grade 8.
MEC Chiloane will brief stakeholders on the application and placement process for 2025.
Accordingly MEC Chiloane will also outline the application and placement process.
How Gauteng School Admissions Work
To apply for Gauteng school admissions, parents must complete an online application on the GDE admissions website.
The process begins with registering and providing necessary parent or guardian details. Following registration, parents must provide their address details and information about the learner.
Next, parents select the school of their choice to apply to. During the regular application period, supporting documents are uploaded online. However, during the late application period, these documents can be submitted directly to the school when they reopen.
The GDE also sets up a dedicated contact centre to assist payments with Gauteng school applications.
