The Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) has confirmed when it will pay NSFAS allowances to students for 2025.

NSFAS provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to deserving students enrolled in approved courses at universities This funding covers tuition and registration fees, as well as several allowances for food, accommodation, and learning materials.

CPUT will pay NSFAS allowances to students on 28 February 2025.

These allowances will be disbursed on 28 February 2025 via the Fundi platform.

The university confirmed only students who were approved for funding by NSFAS for the 2025 academic year will receive allowance payments.

Which NSFAS Allowances CPUT Students Will Receive

CPUT confirmed that books/learning material and meal allowance will be disbursed to NSFAS-qualifying students based on the 2025 NSFAS funding decisions confirmed.

While the university will be responsible for paying allowances to students, NSFAS has not yet indicated the NSFAS amounts for 2025. This promoted CPUT, along with other universities, to pay allowances based on their 2024 values.

Students will receive a R5,460 living allowance which can be used for books, learning materials, and/or a learning device. First-time NSFAS recipients must purchase a laptop if they don't already own one. This is an annual allowance and will only be paid to students once.

Students will receive a Living Allowance of R1,650 per month while the Transport Allowance will be R787.50 monthly.

CPUT is preparing to submit NSFAS registration templates to secure funding for student's full cost of study.

This process requires accurate billing of tuition and accommodation fees, and the university is urging students to ensure their financial records are up-to-date. This will allow the institution to claim the correct amount from NSFAS and facilitate timely disbursement of allowances.

A crucial component of this process involves students residing in private accommodation. These students must ask their landlords or accommodation providers to register their details and associated costs on the Fundi portal.

This registration must include a copy of the lease agreement to validate the accommodation arrangement and ensure accurate payment. The university emphasised the importance of this step for students living in residences not directly managed by the institution.

Students residing in private accommodation, your accommodation provider/landlord must capture your details and costs of accommodation on the Fundi portal and attach your lease agreement.

CPUT and NSFAS called on students to disclose any additional funding they receive.

Students who receive funding from sources other than NSFAS must notify the funding body and their institution within 10 days of receiving such funds. This disclosure is essential to prevent "double-dipping," which can lead to complications with NSFAS funding and potential repayment requirements.

Students must inform the NSFAS and their institutions if they have other sources of funding (i.e. double-dipping) within 10 days of receipt of such funding.
