The University of KwaZulu-Natal has confirmed the first National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) allowance payment date for 2025.

NSFAS provides comprehensive bursaries and student loans to deserving students enrolled in approved courses at universities and TVET colleges. NSFAS funding covers tuition and registration fees, as well as several allowances for food, accommodation and learning materials.

NSFAS Allowance Payment Date For UKZN

The University is aiming for NSFAS allowance payments for 2025 to begin on Thursday, 6 February 2025.

The Executive Management of the University decided to commence the process of disbursing Cycle 1 allowances based on the 2024 allowance amounts.

UKZN cautioned students that there may be delays in allowance payments.

However, please be advised that the process takes a little longer at the start of the year due to programme changes that need to be made to the allowance system. This is being prioritised and the new provisional date for the first payment is 6 February 2025.

UKZN confirmed that it will continue to distribute NSFAS allowances to students on behalf of NSFAS. This practice continued from last year after NSFAS terminated the contacts of direct NSFAS Allowance.

While the university will be responsible for paying allowances to students, NSFAS has not yet indicated the NSFAS amounts for 2025.

The University has been advised by NSFAS that Semester 1 allowances (Cycles 1 to 5) will be disbursed by the University. However, the University has not received any communication from NSFAS regarding the 2025 allowance amounts.
