The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant was introduced in 2020, under the administration of the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa).
Since then, Sassa has come under fire due to delays in payments, however, the government agency has stressed the importance of SRD grant clients using the correct banking details when applying for the grant.
In a statement, Sassa said:
Clients are urged not to repeatedly change their bank details on the SRD website, as the account will have to be verified each time a change is made, which may delay payment for such clients.
According to this statement, Sassa has also recommended that clients open their own bank accounts with an institution of their choice as it will assist them to take ownership of their funds and collection.
Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu has also assured SRD grant clients that there are no bank charges when making their withdrawals, adding that it does not matter which financial institution clients choose to access and withdraw their SRD grant.
Before clients head to the various retail paypoints, including bank ATMs, they ought to either verify their payment on the SRD website or wait for an SMS that will notify them when they ought to make withdrawal of the funds.
