The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) confirmed grant payment dates for August 2024 including Child Support Grants (CSG), Child Support Grant Top-Ups and Foster Care grants.
The Child Support Grant, also known as a children's grant assists low-income families to cover the basic needs of their children. The CSG Top-up is aimed at providing aid to caregivers of orphaned children. The Foster Care grant is intended to financially assist adults legally caring for children in foster care.
Sassa Children Grant Payment Dates For August 2024
In August 2024, all Sassa child grants which are provided for the care of children will be paid on Tuesday, 6 August 2024.
The Child Support Grant
The Child Support Grant provides financial support to the primary caregiver of a child under 18 years old. This grant is aimed at meeting the basic needs of a child like food, clothing, and shelter.
Who Qualifies For The CSG?
- South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee
- The primary caregiver of the child under 18
- Must meet the means test (income threshold)
The Child Support Grant is currently R530 per month, per child.
The Child Support Grant Top-Up
The Child Support Grant Top-Up supplements the regular grant for orphaned children raised by relatives (grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.).
Who Qualifies?
- South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee
- Primary caregiver of an orphaned child under 18 (proof of orphan status required)
- Must meet the means test
The Child Support grant Top-Up is a R250 in addition to the R530 Child Support grant bringing the total to R780 per month per orphaned child.
The Foster Care Grant
The Foster Care Grant is specifically for those legally caring for children placed in their care through the foster care system.
Who Qualifies?
- South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee
- Legally caring for a child under 18 placed in your care through a court order
A set amount of R1,180 per month, per child in your care.
