The National Student Financial Aid Scheme has been working towards finalising their student funding confirmations for the 2023 academic year. This is much to the relief of students who have been waiting for the outcome of their ‘Pending’ funding status.
In a statement published on Thursday the scheme confirmed that they have assessed all student funding applicants with ‘Pending’ statuses have been assessed, adding that their outcome will be reflected on their myNsfas profile.
Students whose statuses were on ‘pending decisions’ have now been assessed and the outcome is reflected on the profile on the NSFAS portal.
NSFAS has further stated that students who have been funded will reflect on the funding list, while unsuccessful applicants have been urged to lodge an appeal with the correct required supporting documents. A Nsfas can be submitted using the steps detailed below.
How To Submit A NSFAS Appeal
- Visit the NSFAS website and click on ‘myNSFAS’.
- Log in to your myNSFAS account by filling in your ID number and password.
- You will then need to click on the ‘Track Funding Progress’ tab and check the application progress tabs.
- If your application status reflects an unsuccessful message, you can submit an appeal by clicking on the ‘Submit Appeal’ tab.
- Once you are on the ‘Application Appeal’ page, you can see the reason for your unsuccessful NSFAS application status.
- You can then choose the appeal reason.
- You will need to upload certified supporting documents to support your reason. You can then click ‘Submit Appeal’ once done.
Who Does Not Qualify For A NSFAS Appeal
However, rejected applicants who find that the appeal option is unavailable on their myNSFAS profile have been told to note that their application has been rejected for valid reasons that cannot be appealed.
Students are not allowed to appeal their reject Nsfas application for the following reasons:
- If they are registered for a qualification that NSFAS does not fund;
- If they have reached N+2 (or N+3 in the case of students with disabilities).
- If the student is a gap year student who NSFAS previously denied financial aid to because s/he did not meet the academic eligibility criteria.
The bursary scheme has also said that appeals are still being processed, noting that a large number of students lodged appeals did so without the correct supporting documents. This has halted the processing of their appeals.
This cohort of applicants will receive an SMS notification from NSFAS requesting them to submit to the required supporting documents within 10 working days. Failure to do so will result in their appeal being closed.
