The Transport Education Training Authority (TETA) is one of South Africa's Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs). SETAs are organizations established to promote skills development in specific economic sectors, in alignment with the country’s National Skills Development Strategy (NSDS).

Key Functions of TETA:

  1. Skills Development: TETA is responsible for developing and implementing skills development programs within the transport sector, which includes aviation, maritime, rail, road freight, and logistics.

  2. Learnerships and Apprenticeships: TETA facilitates the creation of learnerships, apprenticeships, and other work-based training programs to equip individuals with the necessary skills for employment in the transport industry.

  3. Accreditation and Quality Assurance: TETA has previously accredited training providers and ensures that the education and training they offer meet the required standards - although this function has now been mainly transferred to the QCTO.

  4. Funding and Grants: TETA allocates funding to support skills development initiatives, including bursaries for students pursuing studies in transport-related fields.

  5. Sector Research: The organization conducts research to identify skills gaps and industry needs, which informs the development of relevant training programs.

  6. Partnerships: TETA collaborates with employers, training providers, educational institutions, and government bodies to enhance skills development and employability within the transport sector.

TETA plays a critical role in ensuring that South Africa’s transport sector has a skilled and competent workforce, contributing to the overall economic growth and development of the country.
