The annual National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations will commence on 31 October 2022, where thousands of matriculants across the country will sit to write.
Although it is noted that majority of learners are honest and will comply with the exam rules, in previous examinations the education department has reported incidents of exam irregularities, where some candidates were caught cheating.
Portia Phuzi, Chief Director for the Northern Cape education departments’ examinations and assessments explains that one of the more common technical exam irregularities are when learners write the incorrect exam papers.
Matriculants are urged to make sure that they write the subjects they have registered for.
“For example, If you have registered for English Home Language, make sure you don’t have the English First Additional Language paper in front of you." she says
According to the Northern Cape Education Department, learners should do the following to prevent any NSC exam irregularities:
- Be early at the exam venue, arrive at least 40 min before the start of the exam and do not show up late as candidates will not be admitted to the examination room if they arrive after the first hour of the exam.
- Bring your admission letter and identity document to the exam centre every day.
- Have all necessary stationery, bring along extra if needed.
Matriculants are encouraged to NOT do the following:
- Try to find out what will be in the examination paper in advance.
- Bring notes or any other materials that can be used to assist you unfairly.
- Copy from another candidate.
- Communicate with other candidates.
- Pose as someone else in the examination.
- Behave in an unruly manner in the exam room.
- Disobey the instructions from the chief invigilator.
- Remove their scripts or answer sheets from the exam venue.
Candidates are also requested to inform exam invigilators and the school principal about any irregular practices that might witness during an examination.
The Department of Basic Education said it has learned valuable lessons from the previous examinations and is confident in administering the upcoming examination successfully.
