So first, what are the benefits of job shadowing? Job shadowing someone for a day allows you to experience what it would be like to work in your preferred profession. You will learn about the types of skills, personality and other qualities that are required for the profession you are interested in.

So what are your options? If there is a company that you would love to work with, you can email them and ask them if you can shadow them for a week. Companies often have job shadowing available on their company websites, which is their way of looking at potential candidates for a position within the company.

A website you could check out is called Shadow Careers, they are a company that aims to tackle the rate of unemployment amongst the youth. Along with job shadowing, they offer a 3 month purpose training course free of charge, that comes with an employment opportunity after completion.

The sector they focus on is the Global Business Services sector, but they believe that through job shadowing and their courses, you learn skills to help you in any other sector you may be interested in.

Your local municipality usually job shadowing available on request. On your municipality's website, you will find a job shadow section which allows you to request job shadowing. They will allow you to follow a professional for a few days and observing their day-to-day work. Click Here To Request Job Shadowing In The City Of Cape Town.
