Gounden has 17 years of experience in the private higher education sector, and, according to STADIO CEO Chris Vorster, is the ideal person to implement the organisation’s strategic vision at the Musgrave campus.
“Jackie is a resilient problem-solver with a growth mindset who is passionate about the role of education in changing lives,” he says.
That makes her a perfect fit for the STADIO team as we work to broaden access to quality tertiary education. We look forward to seeing her energy and strategic thinking at work at STADIO Musgrave as she focuses on positioning the campus for growth and continued success. It’s wonderful to harness the talents of another impressive female leader, with women now comprising more than half of our leadership as an organisation.
Gounden holds an MBA and a Post-graduate Diploma in Business from Mancosa and a Bachelor of Social Science from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Previously, she was Campus Deputy Head for Varsity College, where she had worked her way through the ranks from Head of Department to Head of Academic Operations.
“What inspires me about this role is the opportunity to be part of a story larger than myself—a story of hope, growth, and transformation,” she says.
I’m not just here to lead; I’m here to serve, to learn, and to build a legacy of empowerment.
Gounden adds that she believes growth is not just about numbers or expansion; it’s about impact. “I want to create an environment where students feel they belong, that their voices matter, and that they’re part of something bigger,” she says.
Her focus will be on building strong relationships, introducing creative strategies to enhance STADIO programmes, and ensuring that STADIO Musgrave thrives as a hub for learning and connection.
“In higher education, where we shape minds and build futures, having women in leadership sends a powerful message to all—especially young women—that leadership is not defined by gender but by courage. When I see my daughter navigating her own path as a young woman, I am reminded of how essential it is to have visible role models—leaders who demonstrate compassion, ambition, and resilience. Higher education institutions that empower women in leadership are trailblazers. They don’t just open doors; they hold them wide open for others, creating opportunities and inspiring the next generation to dream bigger and achieve more,” she concludes.
