JSE-listed higher education provider STADIO has announced the appointment of Dr Judith Geldenhuys as the new Head of its School of Law, as well as changes to its LLB qualification, offering a four-year undergraduate degree from 2025, which replaces the two-year post-graduate LLB currently on offer.


According to the recently released Global Skills Report of 2024 by Coursera, there is “a pressing need to develop a skilled domestic workforce” in South Africa. In the report, South Africa ranked 100 out of the 109 countries that were assessed in terms of skills availability; meaning that we lack most skills required for jobs of the future.

At the end of 2023, the Oppenheimer Memorial Trust Education Research Report was released, and it found that only 55% of Grade 6 teachers could read for comprehension at a Grade 4 level. The report also found that 80% of Grade 6 mathematics learners were taught by teachers with subject knowledge below the level of the grade being taught.


Over 900,000 South African matriculants are currently writing their final National Senior Certificate exams, but according to the Council of Higher Education, more than half of these accomplished high school graduates won’t pursue higher education immediately after getting their results.
