The University of Johannesburg (UJ) SRC has opened applications for the SRC Inclusivity Fund, a funding initiative aimed at assisting financially needy students with minimum registration fees for the current academic year.
The fund was established to ensure that access to higher education is not limited by financial hardship and that deserving students are not excluded from the university system due to an inability to pay initial registration costs.
What Is The UJ SRC Inclusivity Fund?
The SRC Inclusivity Fund is a trust fund administered by Student Finance in partnership with the UJ Student Representative Council (SRC). It provides limited, needs-based financial support to students who are experiencing genuine financial difficulties at the point of registration.
The fund primarily assists with the first minimum payment required for registration and does not cover outstanding balances from previous academic years.
Purpose Of The SRC Inclusivity Fund
The main purpose of the fund is to support students who are registered or intend to register at the University of Johannesburg and who are unable to afford minimum registration fees due to financial need.

Who Qualifies For The SRC Inclusivity Fund?
Due to limited available funding, strict but inclusive criteria apply. To qualify, applicants must:
- Be accepted into a faculty at the University of Johannesburg for a registered academic programme, regardless of nationality
- Demonstrate academic potential by passing at least 60% of modules in the previous academic year
- Prove financial need beyond reasonable doubt to the satisfaction of the selection committee
- Show that financial hardship has a direct impact on their academic progress
- Provide proof that they do not qualify for NSFAS funding in the current academic year
Only a limited number of postgraduate students may be supported. Postgraduate applicants who receive other university bursaries or NRF funding do not qualify for assistance from this fund.
All funding is granted strictly during the registration period, and incomplete applications will not be considered.
How To Apply For The SRC Inclusivity Fund
Students can apply for the fund by completing the online application form available on the University of Johannesburg platform.
All required supporting documents must be submitted with the application. Applications without the necessary documentation cannot be processed and may be rejected if information is not provided within the requested timeframe.
Administration And Selection Process
The fund is administered by Student Finance in accordance with UJ financial policies. A dedicated selection committee reviews all applications and makes final decisions on funding allocations.
The selection committee includes senior representatives from Financial Administration, Student Affairs and the UJ SRC.
Applications are assessed based on financial need and academic performance. Applicants will be informed of the outcome within seven working days.
Appeals Process
Applicants who are dissatisfied with the outcome may submit a written appeal to the selection committee. Appeals are reviewed in line with the fund’s guidelines, and in some cases applicants may be invited for an interview.
Appeal decisions are final and will be communicated within one week of submission.
The SRC Inclusivity Fund plays a critical role in supporting access to higher education at the University of Johannesburg by assisting students who face genuine financial barriers at registration.
Closing Dates
Senior students must apply before the 13th January 2026 and first-year students have until the 31st January to apply.
