Once you have successfully applied to the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) through CAO, you will need to register as a student. In this article, we will take a look at the steps you need to take in order to register at UKZN.

The University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) is a public South African university that consists of five campuses located around the country. A variety of courses are available to students who wish to further their studies and work towards a career. 

If you are a new student who has applied to UKZN, it is imperative that you check your application status online before moving on to the registration stage. 

How to register online at the University of KwaZulu-Natal:

  1. On the home page click on registration (Which will take you to UKZN's Student portal)
  2. Enter your student number and click proceed
  3. On the left panel, click on UKZN Web Registration
  4. Read the rules and regulations.
  5. Select Address Validation and fill in your study address and postal code, click save
  6. Select Personal Contact details and make sure the details provided are correct.
  7. Click online web registration and check to see if all your details are correct.
  8. Then choose your modules, click save
  9. Wait for approval. (You will need to upload the required documents in order to be approved)
  10. Once approved, you will be shown a summary of the modules you have chosen, click save
  11. You will then be shown your registration cost
  12. Click accept registration
  13. You will get a message saying, that you are registered
  14. Logout of the student portal

How to register as a NSFAS student for UKZN

Students who have confirmed NSFAS Funding must follow these steps:

  1. Check your NSFAS profile on the NSFAS website for your funded status.
  2. If your NSFAS profile status indicates that you have been funded for 2023 then check your UKZN funding status on the Student Portal on the UKZN home page.
  3. If your UKZN funding information has been updated for 2023 with NSFAS notation then proceed with academic registration.

Students who DO NOT have confirmed NSFAS Funding must follow these steps:

  1. Check your NSFAS profile on the NSFAS website for your funded status.
  2. If your NSFAS profile status indicates that you have NOT been funded for 2023 then direct enquiries to the NSFAS Call Centre through email : [email protected] or call 08000 67327
  3. If you have been declined for NSFAS Funding and wish to appeal you must access your NSFAS prole and submit an online appeal to NSFAS – see Appeals pointers below.

Students who have been declined by NSFAS and wish to Appeal:

  1. You must access your NSFAS profile and submit an online appeal to NSFAS and include all relevant supporting documents
  2. From time to time you will need to check your NSFAS profile for the outcome of your Appeal.
  3. Should your appeal be approved you must then follow the process above for the “Group A” students.
  4. If your appeal is declined, you need to comply with the financial clearance processes applicable to self-funded students in respect of the payment of arrears fees, registration deposits and the payment of all other study costs for the year.
