Marketing is a fundamental function of any business or organisation, it's all about selling a product or service in a way that can convince a specific target audience.

Without Marketing, there is no business, and Marketing is therefore an key function and can be considered as the heart of any organisation or business. Marketers also build relationships with customers by developing and providing value added services and after sales services.

Marketing managers are responsible for researching and understanding customers and their needs, they develop products and services, set prices, promote,  products and services, develop and grow brands and make sure the products are distributed to and sold at the correct place where it will reach the customer.

The Marketing field is very diverse and therefore offers an array of different career opportunities for example, marketing manager, advertising manager, promotion manager, digital marketer, market researcher and marketing executive, the list goes on and on. 

The requirements to study Marketing Management vary according to the different institutions as well as the qualification you wish to enroll in. 

Below is a list of universities that offer programmes in Marketing Management and the Requirements

  1. The University of Johannesburg - Diploma Marketing – APS of 24 minimum with Mathematical literacy OR and APS score of 22 minimum with Mathematics.

    BCom Marketing Management – APS of 26 minimum with Mathematics plus additional minimum scores for specified matric subjects (see the BCom Marketing Management page for the full list of these additional subjects)

  2. The University of Pretoria: Bcom Marketing Manament – APS of 30 minimum with an achievement level 5 in English Home Language or English First Additional Language and level 4 in Mathematics.

  3. The University of Cape Town

    Bcom Marketing - Guaranteed Admission: FPS of 480 or above NBT scores of Upper Intermediate for AL & QL Mathematics 60% English HL 50% English FAL 60%

    Probable Admission WPS of 470 or above NBT scores of Upper Intermediate for AL & QL Mathematics 60% English HL 50% English FAL 60% Minimum required for possible admission FPS of 425 or above. NBT scores of Upper Intermediate for AL & QL Mathematics 60% English HL 50% English FAL 60%

  4. The University of Witwatersrand: Bcom Marketing - Minimum APS of 38, English Home Language OR First Additional Language Level 5 and Mathematics Level 5

  5. The University of Kwa-Zulu Natal: Bcom Marketing Management - Minimum APS of 30 and a National Senior Certificate with English, Life Orientation and Mathematics level 4. 

Studying Marketing Management will give you the knowledge and skills to you will learn how to influence people's decision making. If you are interested in pursing a career in marketing studying then any the above mentioned institutions is definitely worth considering.
