CACH, short for Central Applications Clearing House, is a platform designed to assist students in securing placements at universities and colleges. It serves as a centralised hub for educational opportunities, offering support and guidance to individuals navigating their academic and career paths.

Careers Portal had a chat with Matthew Makgopela, who is a Project Coordinator at the Department of Higher Education and Training on how to sign up for CACH.

How Does CACH Work?

CACH functions as a bridge between students and educational institutions, facilitating the application process and providing access to various opportunities. Students can sign up by creating a profile and listing their study preferences, which are then made visible to participating universities and colleges.

This visibility enhances students' chances of being considered for placement at the institutions, even if they missed initial application deadlines or are seeking alternative options.

How To Sign Up For CACH

Step 1: Visit the CACH Website: Go to the official CACH website

Step 2: Navigate to the Sign-Up Section: Locate the sign-up section on the website's homepage.

Step 3: Complete the Registration Form: Fill out the registration form with accurate personal and academic information. Ensure all details are entered correctly to avoid any issues during the application process.

No documents need to be submitted as CACH receives matric results from the Department of Basic Education

Once you have completed the registration form, submit your profile to be included in the CACH database. Keep an eye on your email or notifications from CACH for any updates regarding your application status or additional opportunities.

Once students sign up on the CACH system, no further application is needed and institutions will contact students directly. "We just facilitate you, assist you with the facilitation of your applications. Once you're done with CACH, your relationship will be between you and and the institution," explained Makgopela.

The Benefits Of Using CACH

By creating profiles on CACH, students increase their visibility to institutions, including those they may not have previously considered. This exposure enhances their chances of receiving offers and finding the right fit for their academic aspirations.

CACH simplifies the application process by centralising all necessary information and eliminating the need for multiple applications. Once signed up, students can manage their profiles and track their application statuses conveniently.

The CACH system plays a crucial role in addressing the challenges faced by students in accessing higher education. It ensures that no deserving candidate is left behind due to missed deadlines or lack of information. By centralising applications and providing comprehensive support services, CACH promotes inclusivity and equal opportunities in the education sector.

Users of the system are encouraged to take advantage of the support services offered by CACH, such as career guidance and counselling, to make informed decisions about their academic and professional journey. Should students be unsure of which career path to follow, CACH will then refer them to the Career Development Services unit for career advice.

CACH also gives students access to learnerships and other post-Matric opportunities offered, with Makgopela explaining, "it's not only about looking at the universities and colleges, some organizations come on to CACH and say 'we've got a learnership, we want a profile of these learners' then we can provide them with that with your information so when you are on CACH, there are those benefits".
