Central Application Clearing House
The Central Application Clearing House (CACH) system is now open for 2024 applications but will soon be closing. This system aims to provide learners who have not yet been placed at a higher education institution in 2024 to receive information about available spaces to study in 2024.
CACH Online Application 2024
The purpose of CACH is to match applicants' National Senior Certificate (NSC) matric exam results, obtained directly from the Department of Basic Education, with their study preferences. The goal is to identify available spaces in the Post-School Education and Training (PSET) system and facilitate placements accordingly.
While the service guarantees that an applicant's data will be made available to all possible institutions within the PSET system, it's important to note that placement is not guaranteed. The outcome depends on the availability of spaces and specific institutional requirements.
CACH Application
Prospective students can register on the CACH 2024 online system from 8 am on 26 January 2024 and will have until 31 March 2024.
The system utilises exam results and study preferences to make suitable matches. Checking your CACH status is a straightforward process that can be done at any time by logging onto the web portal using your credentials.
Public Universities, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges, and Sector Education Training Authorities (SETAs) leverage the CACH system to identify eligible individuals who can fill available spaces during the current academic year.
The CACH service is provided by the Department of Higher Education and Training as a free service to both applicants and institutions. Since 2013 it has helped thousands of aspirant students find places at institutions of higher learning.

It's essential to ensure the accuracy of the information provided during registration and to stay updated on your CACH status regularly.
Learners who completed Grade 12 from the year 2000 onwards are eligible to sign up for CACH.
What You Need To Sign Up For CACH
Learners are required to enter their ID/Passport Number or Examination Number, Name, Surname and Date of Birth exactly as it appears on their NSC statement of results or their NSC/SC certificate so we can retrieve their final Grade 12 results directly from the Department of Education (DBE).
They will also need a working Cell Phone Number and a valid Email Address
How CACH Placement Work
It's important to note that intuitions are responsible for selection and admission decisions, not CACH. Offer messages will be sent to applicants via SMS as soon as we receive confirmation from institutions.
Institutions may directly contact the applicant. Each offer will be accompanied by a specified expiry date and time. Applicants must respond to the offer message before the designated expiry date.
Upon extending an offer to an applicant, their sign-up details are temporarily removed from the CACH database. This removal will remain until the applicant responds to the offer or until the offer expires.
CACH Online Application 2024 Status Check
Applicants have the option to either ignore or decline an offer. However, once an applicant ignores and/or declines a total of three offers, their sign-up details will be permanently removed from the CACH database, rendering them unavailable to institutions.
It's important to note that institutions retain the right to withdraw offers if the specified conditions are not met or if they discover that the applicant provided false information.
