ISFAP refers to the Ikusasa Student Financial Aid Programme which is a bursary scheme that is targeted towards the missing middle. You might be wondering whether they'll pay your fees if you're an online student. Keep reading to find out.

When you fall under the missing middle label, it means that you're considered too rich to qualify for funding from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) but too poor to afford to pay for your fees yourself. This is where ISFAP can help.

On whether ISFAP funds students who are participating in an online learning programme, an ISFAP representative explained:

ISFAP currently has 11 partnered universities across SA, that is where funding is offered. In light of COVID regulations and learning moving to online based learning, we adapted to the platforms chosen by our partner universities.

In short, yes they do fund students who are studying online.

For more information on which institutions make up the 11, you can visit the ISFAP website on www.isfap.co.za

ISFAP bursaries cover the following:

  • Tuition fees
  • Accommodation
  • Meals
  • Study materials
  • Cash allowance

ISFAP is a support and funding model for financially needy students who fall under the "poor" and "missing middle" category of students.

A missing middle student's household income will fall between R350 000 and R600 000.
