Millions of people submitted Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant applications for June 2025. The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has confirmed how these applicants can check if they will receive an SRD grant payment this month.

By completing a status check an SRD grant applicant can see if their application was approved or not, but also informs them of the steps they must take to ensure they receive a R370 grant payment in June.

How to Check Your SRD Grant Status

Grant applicants can check the status of SRD grant applications online by following these steps.

Step 1: Visit the official SASSA SRD website.

Step 2: Navigate to the "Application Status" section.

Step 3: Enter your South African ID number and the phone number you used when applying.

Step 4: Click "Check Status."

Step 5: If prompted, enter the one-time PIN (OTP) sent to you via SMS to view your status.

Who Will Get Approved For An SRD Grant Payment In June 2025

SRD grant approval is contingent upon various verification checks by Sassa to ensure the applicant qualifies for the unemployment grant.

Applicants must provide their ID number, name, and surname when applying for the SRD grant. This information is validated by the Department of Home Affairs to verify the applicant's residency status. The SRD grant is only paid to South African citizens, permanent residents and special permit holders.

The applicant's ID number is cross-referenced with databases from the South African Revenue Services (SARS), the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), and the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) to assess their financial status and ensure they are not receiving other government relief.

Both the ID number and mobile number undergo a fraud risk scoring process.

After completing these checks, Sassa evaluates the application and makes a final approval decision.

Appealing a Declined Application

If you meet the eligibility criteria for the SRD but your application is rejected, you can submit an appeal to the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA).

Those who choose to appeal must submit a separate appeal for each month your application was rejected.

The ITSAA aims to finalise appeals within 60-90 days. Their decision is final, but applicants can request a judicial review within 180 days of receiving the ITSAA decision.

Sassa’s Status Check Warning To SRD Grant Applicants

Sassa warned beneficiaries that several fake websites are promoting the Sassa status check service that must not be used by grant beneficiaries. If beneficiaries use these websites, they will provide their personal information and put themselves at risk of fraud.

Please note that the below site, the sassa status check website is fake, clients are cautioned not to share their personal information on this site as it does not belong to SASSA.

While several websites provide useful information on Sassa grants, when it comes to entering personal information onto a website, users must be very careful.

Sassa clarified that only their official websites should be used to conduct SRD grant status checks. Government websites like the Sassa SRD grant website all end in .gov.za.

When an internet user enters sensitive information like their ID number or cellphone number on a website and submits it, there's no way to be sure where that information will go or how it will be used.

To protect personal information, it's crucial to ensure Sassa status checks are only done on official Sassa Websites ending in .gov.za.
