The ANC Youth League has said that government needs to provide for the youth of South Africa and should then increase the current R350 grant distributed by Sassa to R1200 every month.
SABC News reports, "The Free State ANC Youth League has called on government to put more emphasis and resources on youth empowerment".
Many are saying ANC should aim to have youth unemployment be a priority in the country. In 2019, unemployment amongst youth was at 53% and due to the current pandemic, this is set to increase and more people will need greater support from government.
"The coronavirus has intensified the desperate situation of the country’s many millions of unemployed young people", said SABC News in an article published during Youth Month.
Sassa offers a R350 grant to unemployed South African who are not previous grantholders or funded by NSFAS. Sassa has since paid over 200,000 people.
