In recent times, the need for adaptable, flexible learning has become much more important, both to keep up with technological advancements and to accommodate the pandemic that forced schools to alter their teaching systems to keep up with Covid-19 mandates.
As the country slowly continues to adapt to life under a pandemic, the continued implementation of online learning has revealed a number of differences in comparison to traditional schooling methods.
The following are a few of the key differences between the two methods:
- Online schooling is more flexible than traditional schooling as it allows for students to complete their studies from anywhere and at any time in most cases, whilst traditional schooling typically requests that students attend school on school grounds
- Online schooling tends to allow for more personalized learning schedules and programmes to be adopted to fit each student’s learning capabilities, whilst traditional learning tends to provide one type of learning programme to multiple groups of students
- With online learning, students can control their learning environment, whilst traditional schooling typically requires that the student remain in a classroom with other students
- Traditional learning offers students the opportunity to engage with their peers and teachers on topics, whilst online learning offers a more isolated learning experience
- Traditional schooling forces sociability as the student would be surrounded by others their age, making relationship building much easier than online schooling does
- Online school requires a dependence on technology, internet connection, and so on to complete tasks whilst traditional learning often does not
- Traditional schooling forces the student to be disciplined in their working as they are supervised in classrooms, whilst online learning requires that the student independently control their discipline and motivation
