Northern Cape Education has followed suit as its fellow Provincial Education Departments (PEDs) by doing its admissions online.

The department has announced that its 2023 online learner admissions system will open on 23 May 2022 from 9:00 am and close on 20 June 2022 at midnight.

It is important that parents and guardians enrol children as early as possible for the 2023 schooling year and not wait until the last minute to rush.

When this year began, there had been high volumes of unplaced learners across the country, so it is important that parents and guardians apply as fast as they can.

These admissions apply to learners who will be doing grades R, 1, and 8 next year. It is advisable that learners should apply for at least three schools (including a school that is closest to the residential address of the learner), indicating the order of preference in the online system.

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) had urged parents to monitor their application progress immediately three months after applying. Basic Education has confirmed to have programmes aimed at building schools to meet the high demand.

The Basic Education's total expenditure is set to increase at an average annual rate of 7.2 %, from R23.4 billion in 2020/21 to R28.8 billion in 2023/24. This comes after a turbulent time for the department, having been negatively impacted by budget cuts and other unforeseen challenges that came after the emergence of the Covid-19 virus.
