When a student fails to meet readmission requirements, it's not all doom and gloom. The University of Cape Town has an appeals process that students can apply for.

Students have until 3 January 2022 to submit an appeal to continue to study if they have not met the readmission requirements.

Students are also urged to keep their eyes peeled for the 2022 academic year dates for registration.

Once exams results are out, the Faculty Examination Committees (FECs) will have a meeting in December to evaluate the progress of every student against the standards for the programme they are registered for.

If a student has not met the minimum criteria, this committee will determine whether to allow for a compromise for the student whether to proceed with the programme of study or to deny them permission to register in 2022.

The University of Cape Town urges every student who will have ‘not eligible to continue’ or ‘eligible to continue if SUPP/DE passed’ towards the end of 2021 to appeal by 3 January 2022 if they wish to study in the next academic year.

Failure to appeal will result in being too late to receive and consider your appeal in time for the start of the first semester in 2022.

Detailed information about this process will be sent by the Dean of each faculty.

The Readmission Appeal Process

Please make sure that before you submit your appeal that you make and keep a copy of your appeal form and any supporting documentation.

Save your appeal form and all supporting documentation as a SINGLE PDF file.

Step 1: Complete the correct appeal form. Please note that undergraduate and postgraduate students have separate forms. Do not use old forms.

Step 2: Upload your appeal on PeopleSoft Self Service using the RAC Service Request by the deadline date and time: Monday 3 January 2022 by 12h00

Your appeal form and supporting documents that have been saved as a SINGLE PDF file can only be submitted via PeopleSoft Self Service. Go to the Readmission Appeal Service Request upload for instructions on how to submit.

Step 3: The Student Records Office will send your appeal to the Faculty RAC to which you have appealed. Please do not include your UCT and matric results in your application.

Step 4: The RAC will consider your appeal.

Step 5: The RAC will write to you to inform you of their decision (for further information about this, please read the section titled ‘Appeal Results’).

Step 7: You are strongly urged to start making plans for what you will do in 2022 if your appeal fails and you are denied readmission to UCT.

Please do not wait until you know the outcome of your appeal to start planning for 2022 as you may be too late to gain entrance into another institution.
