The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) is calling on students who registered on the Central Application Clearing House System (CACH) to respond to their placement offers.
The CACH system allows prospective students to register and receive information about which institutions can accommodate them for their study preferences during the 2023 academic year.
Students who registered on the system have begun receiving placement offers to study during the current academic year. It's important to note that they are not obliged to accept the placement offers provided to them, However, they are encouraged to respond, even if they reject the placement offer.
The DHET said, “We urge all prospective students who signed up on CACH to respond to all offers made to them. It is not wrong to reject an offer.”
Prospective students who signed up on CACH have just two days to accept or reject an offer.
The DHET revealed that a maximum of three offers will be made to a prospective student. After these three offers were made to the prospective student, they will be removed from the Database and will not be allowed to sign-up again.
It's important to note that the CACH system does not decide on the placement of students at institutions of higher learning. The system facilitates communication between prospective students and the institution that can accommodate them.
“CACH does not select prospective students to be considered for space. It is the prerogative of the institution,” explained the department.
Public Universities, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges and Sector Education Training Authorities (SETAs) use the CACH system to search for individuals that meet the eligibility criteria to fill available spaces during the current academic year

Prospective students can check their CACH status by logging onto the CACH web portal using the credentials they used when registering. The system will be available until 31 March 2023.
