According to a statement issued on Wednesday, Sassa has so far received more than 14 million applications for the R350 grant, with over 10 million already approved and nearly 5 million grant payments processed for December 2021.

However, Sassa has further stated that more than 4 million applications were declined for a variety of reasons. In this case, applicants have been advised to lodge an appeal for reconsideration within 30 days of their application being declined.

Applicants who have applied for reconsideration should also note that there will be a day delay in processing their requests and that Sassa is working on resolving the issue as soon as possible.

Sassa Special Relief of Distress (SRD) grant applicants and recipients have also been reminded that there is no fixed date for the processing of this grant. Payments are made depending on whether a grant recipient qualifies on that specified month.

However, if you have chosen to collect your grant payment at the post office you will have to wait until you receive an SMS notification regarding your grant payment before visiting your nearest branch. Recipients who collect their grant payments via their bank can't withdraw their payments at their nearest ATM.

  • Older Person’s Grant: 04 January
  • Disability Grant: 05 January
  • All Other Grants: 06 January
