Last week, social grants recipients using the Sassa gold cards were advised to collect their monies at retailers and ATMs, as over-the-counter withdrawals at South African Post Office (Sapo) outlets were affected by a nationwide systems glitch.

Postbank issued an apology to all its Sassa grant recipients for the inconvenience caused by the system challenges, saying that it knows how important the grant payments are to the livelihoods of many South Africans.

This comes after numerous Post Office outlets experienced glitches in their systems, affecting all Postbank customers wishing to make over-the-counter payments, deposits, as well as Sassa grant withdrawals.

In a media statement Postbank announced that the glitches in the SASSA grant payment system had been resolved as of Saturday afternoon (5 November 2022).

Postbank spokesperson, Dr Bongani Diako says that the system challenges have been resolved and Postbank has since been recording stability with successful transactions over the ATM and retailers.

“SASSA social grant recipients using the SASSA gold card can now collect their grant monies at ATM’s and retailers nationwide as the system glitches that impacted payments have been resolved.”

According to Postbank, the majority of the more than 7 million social grant beneficiaries using the Sassa gold cards issued by Postbank withdraw their social grants via ATM’s and retailers.

“Sassa grant recipients can also use the Sassa gold cards to make purchases at any place that accepts bank card transactions as the Sassa gold card functions fully within the national payment system similarity to any other bank card.”

Therefore, grant recipients were advised to use ATMs and retailer outlets such as Shoprite, Checkers, Pick n Pay and Usave to withdraw their monies.

Postbank says that it will monitor the system performance within Post Office branches and advise beneficiaries on any new developments.
